I’m excited to introduce you to Ashley of Polka Dot Square Design today! As a wine lover myself I think her jewelry line is so fun! She hand makes these pieces out of real wine bottles! Something from her Etsy shop would be the perfect gift for the lush in your life (or yourself!). And you have the chance to win a necklace from Polka Dot Square Design below!

Hi there! Thank you so much for having me today on Jeans and a Teacup – I’m excited for the opportunity! I’d like to take this time to introduce to my unique collection of jewelry and tell you a bit of how it came to be…

I love a good glass of a dry red wine, I mean who doesn’t? I also enjoy unique jewelry with lots of texture and character. Long necklaces, mixed metals, you get the idea. Well, one day I decided to play a bit with the stash of corks we’ve collected over the years. It started as a simple pendant with a hand sliced, sanded, and stamped piece of cork. I just couldn’t leave as that though. I got it into my head that I wanted to take it one step further and add beads made from wine bottle glass. I found a couple of shops that sold small beads made from this glass, but with my leather cord that I’d fallen in love with, I needed larger beads. So off I went on an obsessed Google search. Searching all the local cities and those around me looking for a glass artist or lamp work artist {they make beads that are tiny works of art}, I managed to find a few and e-mailed each one of them. Then I struck gold, a local artist about an hour away from me responded to my plea! {score!} So I now send her my wine bottle glass, and she sends it all back to me in the form of beautiful beads. 🙂

While on my quest to find these rare beads, I thought I may as well find other accents that would compliment the cork. Just in case the wine bottle beads were an impossible find. That’s how the stone, metal, and wood beads also ended up in the mix. Each and every piece of the collection includes at least cork or a wine bead, if not both! That is the basis of the whole collection after all. Upcycled wine bottles. The ultimate jewelry for a wine enthusiast or ‘wino.’

As you can tell, I am in love with this collection. I honestly wear it all the time as well. Even though I am biased, I have had nothing but positive feedback on the line. 🙂

Within the collection you will see lots of necklaces, bracelets and even earrings and a few key chains. The earrings are extra special as well. I was having a difficult time finding quality ear wires that could handle a leather cord, I didn’t want to settle for cheapies. So I actually learned a bit of metal work. Now I hand form each sterling silver wire and hammer and discolor them {on purpose} for texture. The bright and shiny silver wasn’t coordinating with the theme of the line. So the earrings also have a beautiful rustic feel.

Currently you can even find my collection in a few winery gift shops across the country… but even if you buy a single piece, or more, from my Etsy shop, each and every piece is packaged beautifully to compliment the entire theme. They’re wrapped up prettily in kraft paper bags, a bit of twine, and a pretty label. It looks better than it sounds, I promise. See the photo below if you don’t believe me. 🙂

What’s next for the line? I would loooove to get my hands on some beads made from actual grapevine or wine barrels… but we’ll have to see. 🙂

Love them? Want one of your own? Well you have a chance to win one right here! Winner will receive one of these necklaces that feature a cork pendant and wine bead.

When I’m not designing pieces for my upcycled wine bottle jewelry – I also do graphic design – and I am a mom to two {a toddler and a baby} and a military wife. I always love a good book or movie with my glass of wine. 🙂

  1. If an older vintage receives too much oxidation, there is no going back. So you end up in the enviable position of drinking more wine than you want, or pouring money down the drain. Something any person who appreciates finances or imbibing does not want to do.
