The Striped Mistake

Dress: H&M, Jacket: H&M, Shoes: SE Boutique via DSW, Purse: H&M, Necklace: GreeTeaJewels via Etsy, Bracelet: Express, Nails: Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow

A couple things about this dress.  1. It’s made of a stretchy material so it’s VERY form fitting.  2.  It keeps getting higher with each step I take so by the time I’ve walked a block it’s up to my butt.  3.  It’s not very practical for going out in public.
I bought this dress in the spring thinking it would be great for summer but kept going back and forth as to whether I should keep it or not.  Alas, I waited too long and couldn’t really return it.  So I wore it on a hot day out to lunch with the hubs.  I didn’t realize that I would pretty much have to hold down the bottom of the dress with both hands in order to keep it from riding up to my waist.  Luckily it’s a pretty basic piece so I think I can get away with wearing skirts over top.  What do you do with items that turn out to be fashion mistakes?

  1. I bought a similar dress from Forever 21 and it does the same thing! I have only worn it in blog pictures as it shows waaaaay to much with every step. Love the yellow nails and brown shoes with the black stipes!

  2. Too bad about the dress cause it looks great on you. But you are right you can use it as a top with skirts or even with some skinny jeans or jeggings.

  3. I hate when I buy something and then realize it doesn't work the way I thought it would!! This dress looks good on you, but the riding up would be annoying. I think it would look good with a skirt over it!

  4. I end up doing this with dresses all the time. I have really long legs, and only truely feel comfortable if something hits at my knees or right above them. You could totally wear this with leggings, skinny jeans, or even a full skirt and bunch up this dress as a long tank.

  5. I can totally relate and I've bought similar pieces! The bright side is that this dress will be perfect for fall. Throwing on a pair of brown tights will give the dress something to hold onto and it won't ride up as much, that's what I did with my dress like this and it worked perfectly.

  6. Haha, I also got two of these 'problem-dresses'! 🙂
Anyway, you look really great in yours! I love the casual combination with the denim jacket and the yellow nailpolish!
