The Jacket

So…funny story about this jacket. Well, not really funny but more irritating for me.  Apparently, H&M has this weird rule where you can’t take clothes off the mannequin even if it’s the ONLY one left in your size! I wanted this jacket so bad that I literally went back to the store everyday to see if they got more in stock or if they just took this one off the darn mannequin! I was about to give up but I made one last trip to the store and they had finally taken this one off the mannequin!

I really wanted this jacket because it’s neutral and textured.  I feel like it will go with everything! And on one of my many trips to H&M to check for the jacket I found these printed pants and they just happen to go perfectly with the jacket.

Have any of you wanted an item so bad that you stalked it in the store? (Say yes so I don’t feel so weird!)

  1. I don't understand why stores won't sell clothes off their mannequins!? I'm sure the visual merchandising aspect has a big part in why they won't allow you to buy the items on their mannequins, but then again, they lose out on a sale. Oh well! I'm glad you were able to get your jacket. Looks fab on you!

Random fact: Banana Republic will take off the clothes off the mannequin for you… and they do it willingly… at least my BR store does. 🙂

  2. I was in Ireland once and fell in love with a dress on a mannequin. They refused to take it off and said I could come back in 2 days when they changed the store displays. Well, I was leaving to come home the next day, so I left money with my mother in law since she was staying on longer. In the end, the dress didn't even end up fitting all that well, is itchy, and I have only worn it a couple of times. Soooo not worth the hassle and the cost in euro!

  3. It's not just H&M – other stores like F21 do that too. It's so stupid, why advertise something you can't buy!
Here is what I do now… just take it. Put something else on really quick. If you get caught it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Glad you stuck it out and got the jacket, it's really cute!

  4. That's actually pretty funny to me because I had a similar experience at H&M once! There was just one hoodie left on the mannequin and I wanted it so badly. The clerk told me the same; that I couldn't take it from the mannequin, but I was sort of pushy, and had him call the manager, who then had to call someone else in another location, and in the end they finally let me undress the mannequin to take home my prized star print hoodie. The really funny part is that I don't even wear the thing anymore! All that trouble for a few good months with a cute piece of clothing 🙂
I like that you took the mature, nice lady route and patiently waited for them to take the jacket off the mannequin themselves.

  5. Why on earth do they have this rule? Are they lazy? On more than one occasion in other stores, I have insisted on clothes being taken off a mannequin — or volunteered to do it myself! (That usually gets them on it.) And I don't feel guilty about it in the least — if it's in the store, it should be available to be sold. I'm glad you got the jacket in the end, but such an odd rule!

  6. I once really wanted a pair of trousers, and was really disappointed to see that they had none in my size. I asked the manager if she could get a pair sent over from another shop. She just looked me up and down, asked me to follow her and dismantled a mannequin in the centre of the shop. I was so chuffed a) because I was the size of the mannequin and b) because I never knew one could ask for something of a mannequin!! Sorry to hear that H&M doesn't do that! But I'm glad you got it in the end!
