The Best Linen Dresses for Hot Summer Days
I’ve had an epiphany. A linen dress is the only thing I want to wear on hot summer days when the air feels like yogurt. I recently ordered a short linen shift dress and didn’t think I would love it as much as I do. It’s light, airy, and the only thing I can stand touching my skin when the humidity is out of control. Here’s my roundup of the best linen dresses for hot summer days!
The Best Linen Dresses for Hot Summer Days
Sézane Josiana Dress Review
This is the dress that started it all: the Sézane Josiana Dress. I thought it was cute, but I was worried it would be too short on me and maybe not super flattering. I was wrong on both counts! The minute I put it on and wore it outside to take these photos, I knew I’d be living in the dress the entire summer. I loved it so much that I immediately bought it in black when I went back inside!

I think I like this dress so much BECAUSE of its simplicity. It’s 100% linen and unlined (except for the bust section). The thin spaghetti straps aren’t adjustable, but the length is perfect. There aren’t even pockets but that gives the dress a more streamlined silhouette. Depending on your accessories, this dress can easily be dressed up or down. That’s why it’s such a versatile dress!
A note on fabric—I prefer 100% linen in the summer because it’s a natural, breathable fabric. But be aware that linen does wrinkle easily. If that bothers you, try a linen-blend material. A linen/viscose blend will make the dress a little less wrinkly and a bit more drapey. A linen/cotton blend is also nice. If you can, I would avoid polyester blends because they are synthetic and will make the dress less breathable.

In the above photos, you can see that I’ve styled it simply for summer with strappy flat sandals and a mini straw basket bag. But something as simple as adding an oversized linen blazer adds a little more sophistication! You can even swap out my flat sandals and straw bag for a pair of kitten heel sandals and a clutch for a dressier vibe.

Size and Fit
I’m wearing size 6, my usual size in Sézane. If you are between sizes, I definitely recommend taking your larger size because you want a loose fit for this dress. And while I don’t usually wear mini dresses, I don’t think this dress looks to short on me. I’m 5’8″ with long legs so if you are shorter than that you should have no problem. I will be wearing a pair of boy shorts underneath though because that just makes me feel more comfortable!
This dress is currently available in several colors/prints but sizing is running low. I managed to snag one in black linen after it came back in stock from customer returns – so just keep your eyes out! There’s also a cute floral linen/cotton version still available!

Other Linen Dress Options
But don’t worry—there are other cute options available from other retailers! I’ve rounded up some of my favorites I’ve seen recently! Many of these options are available in multiple colors, so be sure to check the product details!
