Laude the Label Playa Dress Review

I’ve been a fan of Laude the Label’s easy, minimalist pieces for awhile now. I have purchased some of their pieces during their sample sales. Their Francoise Top is a favorite of mine in the spring and summer! I also tried out the Juliette Dress which I styled for fall. But I’ve been wanting to try out one of their linen pieces for awhile so when I saw the Playa Dress I knew it would be a great piece for summer.

Size and Fit

My measurements: 34-29-29, 130 lbs, 30D, 5’8″

I was kind of confused about what size to get because the size guide only provides garment measurements. I’m usually a size small so I went with the size S/M. I also compared the garment measurements to another slip dress I had and the S/M Laude the Label dress had the same chest measurement so I figured I was good to go!

After trying on the dress I did decide to take the underarm area in by about 1/2 inch on each side. The fabric under my arms seemed to flair out more and I felt it was just a little too loose. I do have a petite frame so sometimes it’s more noticeable that I’m not filling it out on sleeveless tops. I didn’t want to size down to the XXS/XS size thought because I felt the hips area would be too tight. But just an FYI that in these photos my bust area will be a little more fitted because I had it taken in!

Fabric and Feel

The Playa dress is made from 100% Organic Linen with a 100% Organic Cotton lining. I love the look and feel of the natural, undyed linen. It has a lovely texture while still being soft and flowy. I also love that this dress has an attached lining. That way I don’t have to worry about adding a slip – because the linen layer is slightly see-through.

The dress also has adjustable strap, which I love, because I always have to adjust the straps on my tops and dresses! That way you are able to make this dress sit lower or high depending on your preference. Oh! And it has pockets! That’s always appreciated in a dress. I think the pockets do a great job of blending in with the dress. They don’t make the sides stick out or anything. They are almost invisible unless you use them!

The Playa dress also comes in a GORGEOUS Amber Brown colorway. I was tempted to get that color but decided to go with the linen color instead.

How to Style the Playa Linen Dress

Admittedly, the color of this dress washes me out a little and I am on the verge of having it look like I’m wearing a burlap sack if I don’t style it correctly…haha. I just love the idea of an off-white, natural slip dress so I wanted to give it a go. The key is to accessorize!

Even though the rest of my outfit/accessories are also in neutral shades it still helps to give this outfit more interest. I added my Janessa Leone straw hat with the leather ties to complement the brown leather on my mini Justine Bag and Nisolo woven slides. I decided to throw my Jenni Kayne cotton fisherman sweater over my shoulders for more texture. This sweater is also great for cooler summer nights which is why I like to bring it along when I’m wearing sleeveless dresses.
