Styling a Bright Red Sweater with a Wool Mini Skirt

Red is the color of the season and I’m having fun pairing red with different items in my closet. In today’s outfit I’m styling a bright red sweater with a wool houndstooth mini skirt – and it may be my favorite combo!

Styling a Bright Red Sweater

I’ve been on a red kick this fall so when I saw the Amiel Jumper from Sézane I knew it would be perfect! I feel like it’s a really nice bright red. It’s also nice and fluffy and oversized. Unfortunately, it’s sold out at the moment in this color, but Sézane has plenty of other gorgeous bright red sweaters.

Pair with a Houndstooth or Plaid Mini Skirt

I love pairing red with houndstooth or plaid. You can see a different combo in my blog post “How to Incorporate Red Into An Outfit This Fall“. This time, instead of pairing a crimson red sweater with houndstooth, I chose a bright red sweater. I really like red with brown and camel tones so I chose a plaid with a mix of neutral colors.

Pair with Neutral Colors

I’m not a huge fan of pairing red with all black – I prefer tans, browns, and camel tones. However, since I was able to add a little brown to my outfit through the skirt, I didn’t mind adding black tights and black shoes. I had a black bag handy but I think a brown tote would look good too. The brown and neutral tones help to soften the black a little so there’s not as much of a stark contrast with the red and black.

To finish off this look for cold temps I would add a camel coat. I love red paired with camel so I think the coat would really finish off the look. My other accessories include black tights, patent black shoes, and a chic bag!
