Sézane Betty Cardigan Outfit

The popular Sézane Betty Cardigan has been on my radar for awhile. It’s a classic design and looks so chic! But I was never able to pull the trigger until I saw it released in this striped pattern! Even though we are headed into summer I still think this cardigan has a place in my closet.

Betty Cardigan Review

The Betty Cardigan made Sézane’s list of the Top 15 pieces to make you feel like a classic Parisian. According to Sézane it has that “cute 60’s vibe” going on and I definitely agree. It has a slightly cropped, boxy shape with two front pockets and large buttons down the front. It’s 100% merino wool so I’d definitely call it a sweater but it has some light jacket vibes as well. I wouldn’t say the merino wool is heavy but it does keep it’s shape pretty well. Which is why it feels slightly different than wearing a cardigan sweater (like the Gaspard Jumper, for example). I took my usual size small and I think it fits perfectly.

I’ve been tempted in the past to get the Betty Cardigan in the coffee shade but I’m glad I waited for the stripes! The Ecru/Navy Striped Betty has a preppy/nautical feel that I feel makes it appropriate for spring/summer. The large gold buttons are also a nice detail that makes this Betty stand out from the other colorways. All of the other Betty Cardigans have tortoise shell buttons, I believe.

How to style

I definitely can’t wear this on hot summer days but it makes an excellent layer for cold, air conditioned rooms. If you work in an office this cardigan would be perfect! It was already a little warm on the day I shot these photos so I decided to wear the cardigan mostly unbuttoned and sans undershirt! Surprisingly, the sweater stayed mostly closed while I was moving around and I don’t feel like I actually exposed much skin. If you are daring I think you could totally wear the cardigan out like this! But if you are feeling more modest, a light tank top with the cardigan unbuttoned would be the ideal way to wear in warmer months.

To add to the preppy French vibe of this cardigan I added a red lip and red sandals. These small pops of color are enough to give this neutral outfit some pizzazz! I would also add my Milo Classic bag with a silk scarf to this outfit if I was going out. I’m wearing my Everlane The Way-High Slim Jean which is a great option if you are looking for denim that’s between a skinny jean and a mom jean. The waist and hips are still fitted but the leg is slightly looser than a skinny jean. And they have long inseams! I’m wearing the 31″ inseam so it does hit at the bottom of my ankle if I have them unrolled.

I also think this cardigan would look great with a pair of denim shorts or wide leg crop pants. Throwing this cardigan over your shoulders while wearing a floral dress would be so cute too!
