Rouje Beauty: Mascara, Eyeliner, + Lipstick Review

Rouje Paris has been one of my favorite French brands for awhile so when they came out with their beauty line I knew I had to try it out! I’ve already done a review of their Lip, Eye, and Cheek Palette but since then they’ve expanded their line to include mascara and eyeliner! I’m also throwing in a review of their lipstick because I just tried that out as well.

About Rouje Beauty

The Rouje fashion line was started by French It-Girl, Jeanne Damas, in 2016 and included ready to wear dresses, tops, bottoms and accessories with a feminine, vintage flair. In 2018 Rouje launched their beauty line of 4 lipstick shades – including Jeanne’s signature red shade. Rouje Beauty later expanded to include Eye, Lip, and Cheek palettes, more lipstick shades, liquid lipstick, nail polish, and finally – eye products.

Rouje Beauty: Mascara, Eyeliner, + Lipstick Review

Rouje’s Regard Collection includes an eyelash curler, mascara, and eyeliner designed to give you a natural look. They are designed to be easy to use and buildable and come in Rouje’s signature vintage gold packaging. You can buy the products individually or get them in sets which gives you a little discount. I picked up the Eyes + Lips set which includes the mascara, eyeliner, and a lipstick shade of your choice. The sets now included a small pouch but I ordered a large velvet pouch separately before they added that option(darn!). I didn’t get the eyelash curler because I decided I would rather have a lipstick instead of the curler. But you can get the mascara, eyeliner, and eyelash curler in Le Regard set.

Rouje Beauty Mascara and Lipstick Review

Rouje Le Mascara

The Rouje Mascara is a nourishing vegan formula with castor oil and calendula extract. It defines the lashes and is buildable to give you a natural look or bold look. It comes in a bigger tube than the eyeliner but it’s still relatively thin. The price is $29 but it’s cheaper in a beauty set.

Rouje L’Eyeliner

The liquid eyeliner comes in a very thin tube – it’s basically the size of a pencil. It only comes in one shade – black – and it has a thin and flexible tip. With the thin tip you are able to create precise lines for a subtle or more dramatic look. It’s a 24 hour, waterproof, vegan formula so it should stay put all day! The price is $25 but it’s cheaper if you buy it in a set.

Rouje Lipstick

Rouje Lipstick comes in 14 shades in a creamy, matte finish. The lipsticks also come in the signature gold bullet that looks beautiful on your vanity. I got the new “Coralie” shade which is a vintage orange color.

My Thoughts + Review

I LOVE the packaging of the beauty products. The gold cases look so beautiful sitting on my vanity. I love that they don’t have much branding on them as well. To be honest – I just wanted to try out these products because the packaging is so pretty!

But aside from the packaging I don’t think these products are anything crazy unique or special. I found that the eyeliner was very easy to apply and went on smoothly. I liked the thin tip because I was able to create a nice winged eyeliner look. The mascara was nice because it wasn’t thick or clumpy. It did a great job of separating my lashes for a nice natural look. I didn’t find that it was lengthening. I would have to apply several coats to get a bold lash look. The mascara works great for me because this formula feels lighter and doesn’t weigh my lashes down. So I actually do prefer this to my other mascara I was using (L’Oreal Voluminous Lashes).

The lipstick feels really nice and creamy going on. My lips are very dry so I prefer lipsticks that are more hydrating. It doesn’t last all day but that’s the case with most lipsticks that I try. The color is a orangey red that looks brighter on me than on the model. I do like the shade and I think it’s great for summer. Unfortunately, after using it one time, the base of the lipstick started to break off so I could feel it moving around in the tube. It also scrapes the side of the tube now because it’s lopsided. I don’t really know why that happened since I’ve hardly used it. I did reach out to Rouje to see if I could get a replacement though.

Overall, I LOVE the packaging and the products preform well. I found that the eyeliner is pretty smudge proof and lasts all day. The mascara isn’t really smudge proof. If I rub my eyes they turn black. But the mascara doesn’t flake off and make my under eyes black like some mascaras do. Is it worth the large shipping fees to order from France? Not really. If you are ordering clothes and feel like throwing in some makeup then I would do that. OR you can order a few of the lipsticks and palettes from Violet Grey (see below).
