This outfit is probably one of my favorites that I’ve put together recently. Although, I’m getting mixed reviews about it (according to my husband and mother – but what to they know about fashion anyway?!). Some may love it, some may hate it, but that’s what you get when you experiment with print mixing!

The inspiration for this look came from someone I met at an event. She was wearing this exact skirt with a plaid blazer, white tee, and white shoes. It was soooo cute. I told her that I was going to have to copy her look – and I did! I wish I could remember her name/Instagram account but she wasn’t a blogger and since Insta doesn’t keep your following in chronological order I think she’s lost in my feed somewhere. But you know who you are and if you are reading – I love your style!

Since the plaid and leopard skirt give off a bolder vibe I decided to add studded booties and this awesome faux leather bag with gold hardware. I feel kinda rocker-chic in this outfit!

Tips for Print Mixing

Tip #1: Find prints in the same color scheme

In this look I went with neutrals: tan, grey, and black. So the black stripes in the blazer match the black dots in the skirt. It probably would have been even better if my blazer had some tan in it but sometimes you gotta work with what you have in your closet!

Tip #2: Choose different size prints

I always try to mix a larger print with a smaller print. In this case, the leopard kind of looks like larger polka dots and my plaid blazer has thin, stripes. If the plaid had really thick lines and a bolder square pattern it might not have worked. My favorite prints to mix together are polka dots and stripes and floral and stripes!

  1. This is a total YAY from me! I love the plaid and leopard mix. The cuffs being black really tie the two together! I’m saving it for later to totally recreate this look! It’s fun how one person’s fashion can inspire so many other people!
