Nécessaire Review: Clean Body Care
*Products were gifted but all opinions are my own. Updated Jan 2022.
Nécessaire is one of those brands that I kept seeing everyone and their mom post about on Instagram. Usually, that kinda turns me off but there’s a reason everyone is talking about this brand! It’s that good. I was initially intrigued by the sleek, simple packaging but as I looked into the brand, I found out they are clean and sustainable! That, coupled with their impressive Instagram marketing, prompted me to reach out to the brand to ask if I could try it out! I’m so glad they agreed to send me their Body Essentials kit to try out because I think I’ve found my new favorite body care brand. Check out my Nécessaire Review below!

Nécessaire Review
About Nécessaire
Nécessaire believes that “it has to be necessary” and effective. So they carefully choose the products they develop, the ingredients they use, and the footprint they leave behind. They are a clean beauty brand so their products don’t contain parabens, phthalates, sulfates, silicones, petro-chemicals, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic dyes. Nécessaire also believes in sustainability and their products are certified climate-neutral, plastic-neutral and packaged in 85% post-consumer waste boxes and 100% recyclable paper. All of Nécessaire’s products are pH balanced to maintain skin’s natural pH levels.
The Body Essentials
The Body Wash
I was most excited to try out their body wash because I’m always looking for simple formulas that get that job done. Sandalwood also happens to be one of my favorite scents so I was soooo excited that they sent me the Sandalwood body wash!
The Body Wash is a multivitamin gel cleanser that cleanses the skin with plant derived surfacants that won’t strip the skin. The formula contains ingredients rich in Vitamin B³, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega-6, and Omega-9 as well as Marula, Cacay, and Meadowfoam oils to soften skin. The Body Wash comes in three light scents – Sandalwood, Bergamot, and Eucalyptus – as well as Unscented.
All of Nécessaire’s products are unisex and after trying out the Sandalwood Body Wash I can confirm that it’s a scent and formula that your partner would love to! I bought the Body Wash in unscented as well and even though it doesn’t have a scent, it still smells good – if that makes sense! I use my Boie USA Body Scrubber to apply the body wash and I was able to get a nice lather. I highly recommend using this scrubber instead of a loofah. I’ve noticed that I use way less product when I’m using the Boie Body Scrubber – which saves me money in the end! This body wash is definitely a favorite of mine and I want more of it! Good news – you can now buy 16.9oz refills of the body wash so you don’t have to buy the smaller bottles (and you’ll save $10)!
*Update – I’ve been using this body wash everyday since I got it and it’s almost gone. So I would say a bottle lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 months.
The Body Exfoliator
The Body Exfoliator is a chemical AND physical exfoliator for your whole body. The gentle AHA/BHA combination of Glycolic, Lactic, and Salicylic Acids help remove dead skin and the physical pumice and bamboo charcoal help scrub and soften the skin. It starts out as a gel with tiny black charcoal/pumice pieces and as you massage it into your body it starts to foam. It’s available in the Sandalwood, Bergamot, and Eucalyptus scents – as well as Unscented.
I really like the tiny tiny scrubbers in this gel. Usually, the body scrubs I have contain large pieces of exfoliant and I feel like it’s hard to get a good scrub. It’s also nice that this exfoliator has a double whammy of exfoliation with the chemical + physical exfoliators.
The Body Lotion
The Body Lotion is a multivitamin lotion that is non-greasy and absorbs quickly. It contains ingredients rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B³, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega-6, and Omega-9. It also contains Marula, Cacay, and Meadowfoam oils to soften the skin. The Body Lotion only comes in Unscented.
I love that this lotion absorbs so quickly and doesn’t feel greasy at all. I can apply it to my whole body and then get dressed right away without having to worry that it will rub off on my clothes. It’s the least greasy body lotion that I’ve every tried! I don’t use this everyday because I’m trying to savor it…lol. It’s not a huge bottle so if you use it over your entire body every day you will use it up pretty quickly.
*Update: I just finished my Body Lotion bottle so it definitely lasted longer than I thought it would. I used it sparingly in the beginning and then the last month I started using it everyday. I would say it lasted me 4-5 months.

The Body Serum
The Body Serum is a multi-hydration gel that contains Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, and Ceramide NP. You can apply it to your whole body or just where extra hydration is needed. Use before applying a moisturizer OR you can mix with your moisturizer. It is unscented.
It’s been VERY dry here so I’ve started to use the Body Serum on my dry patches and on my décolleté and neck right when I get out of the shower while my skin is still damp. Hyaluronic Acid works best when it has moisture to draw in so applying to damp skin is a must!
The Body Serum doesn’t feel hydrating (it just helps to plump up the skin with moisture) so you do need to apply a moisturizer after it.
The Hand Cream

The Hand Cream is a peptide and multi-vitamin moisturizer that’s lightweight and absorbs quickly (similar to the body cream). I would say that the hand cream is slightly thicker and makes your hands feels smoother than The Body Cream. It only comes in a fragrance-free option. It’s obviously very nice but at $20 for 2.2oz it is kind of expensive. In comparison, The Body Lotion is $25 for 6.8oz. The Hand Cream is nice but not life changing. I use L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Hand Cream and I find that does the job as well and is more product for your dollar. I probably wouldn’t purchase The Hand Cream on it’s own but if it comes included in a set it’s a nice product to have on hand – get it 😉. Oh – and I do love the packaging. I’m a sucker for hand creams in Aluminum. Although, to get all the product out effectively you probably need one of these tube squeezers.
The Body Oil

The Body Oil is an unscented oil made ONLY from plant oils! There are no filler ingredients. The formula is rich in Vitamin B7, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega-6, Omega-7, Omega-9, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Zinc. The Body Oil is meant to restore, nourish, and soften skin.
I think this is a great body oil because it’s UNSCENTED. A lot of body oil’s I’ve tried are scented. And like all of the Nécessaire products, it absorbs really quickly. This body oil doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy – which is awesome! I also love that it’s a really simple formula. It’s $35 for 3.4oz. (Although, I’m not sure if that means it’s overpriced for just being Almond Oil + other oils? But I have a feeling that pure Almond Oil would feel really greasy on your skin). The bottle is also a decent size – and a little goes a long way – so I feel like this will last awhile.
If you were wondering, you can use the Body Oil along with the Body Serum and Body Lotion! First apply the Body Serum, then the Body Lotion, and then seal all that moisture in with the Body Oil! I use all three together and my skin does not feel greasy or oily – just hydrated!
My only complaint with the Body Oil is that product leaks from the dropper when you take it out of the bottle. So I have to make sure to put my hand under the dropper when I take it out of the bottle.
The Deodorant Gel
The Deodorant Gel is Nécessaire’s new deodorant (They also sell a cream based deodorant) and it’s a 5% AHA and Niacinamide deodorant designed to minimize odor, discoloration, and bumps. It DOESN’T contain Aluminum, Baking Soda, Parabens, PEGs, or Synthetic Fragrance. It’s a clear, quick-dry gel that won’t stain your clothes! The Deodorant Gel comes in Fragrance-Free and Eucalyptus scents.
I have to admit – I’m not really a fan of clean deodorants. I’m VERY stinky so I’ve found that natural deodorants don’t really work for me. My hopes weren’t high for the Deodorant Gel but I was pleasantly surprised. It did seem to keep away odor for me! However – I’m using during the cold winter when I don’t sweat that often. So I’m not really sure how this holds up on hot days. I also really love the scent (I got it in Eucalyptus). It smells really fresh and clean!
I’m not really fan of the gel textures (so maybe I would like their cream deodorant better?) I found that it dries a little tacky at first (and I don’t like that feeling). After a bit it does absorb all the way and it feels like I’m not wearing deodorant at all.
So the jury’s still out for me on this one. I’ll have to use it during warmer months to see if it REALLY works.

Is Nécessaire Worth the Money?
Short answer – YES! I really like all the products and have repurchased them myself. Nécessaire embodies everything that I look for in a skincare brand – clean formulas, and great branding and packaging. Yes – packaging is important to me…haha. I like my skincare products to look good on my counter. But Nécessaire products WORK which is ultimately why I would purchase them. It’s also hard to find non-scented bath and body products and all of Nécessaire’s products come in unscented versions – which is awesome!
The only downside is that the products are a bit pricey. The products above range from $20-25 and the bottles aren’t that big. However, you can save a bit of money if you buy the above products in a set.
