Matching Two Piece Set from Darling
I was drawn to the Playful Short Sleeve Top and the Playful Short because I thought it would be a nice summer-to-fall transition outfit. I don’t know what it’s like where you live but August and September are still HOT here. Everyone’s talking about fall pieces but I’m still wearing dresses and shorts! I loved that this set was still light and breezy but in a nice muted olive green shade that looks great in summer and fall.

Playful Short Sleeve Top + Shorts
I love that this set feels casual yet put-together at the same time. I’ve actually been wearing it a lot since I got it because it’s so easy to throw on. The top is cropped with lots of cute details like buttons down the front, large pockets, and side notches on the hem. I also love that the short sleeves are on the longer side – they almost hit my elbows! The top is cropped so I would recommend pairing it with high waist bottoms.
The Playful Shorts have an elastic waistband which makes it really comfortable. Sometimes I have trouble picking bottoms that fit because my belly size fluctuates so much from morning to evening. So I REALLY appreciate the stretchy waist! The shorts have pockets (a must!) and a cute side notch hem detail. I do have long legs so sometimes shorts feel too short on me. But with a 5.5″ inseam these are the perfect length!
The great thing about a matching two piece set is that you can wear both pieces separately. When the weather cools down you can pair the top with high waisted trousers or jeans. The Journey Easy Pant from Darling is the perfect match! I’ve also seen people wear the Playful Short Sleeve Top unbuttoned over a tank. It’s very versatile! And the shorts look great with tank tops – like the Nobel Tank – or tops like the Lovely Short Sleeve Top.
Size, Fit, + Material
My measurements: 33-28-38, 30D, 125lbs, 5’8″
I think this set runs true to size. I’m wearing size small in the top and bottom and they fit perfectly. The top and bottom both have a nice relaxed and boxy fit. The material is 85% modal and 15% polyester. It feels nice and silky and has a slight sheen to it.
My only complaint with this set is that it contains polyester. I really don’t like polyester clothes. One, because polyester is not eco-friendly or sustainable. And two, because polyester doesn’t breath. Thankfully, I don’t notice a “polyester feel” with this set. But I am concerned about the sustainability aspect. Darling mentions on their website that their collection is 47% sustainable and that they are working towards improving that. I’m going to give them a little grace since they are a brand new clothing company but I’m hoping they switch to all eco-friendly and sustainable fabrics in the future!
Styling the Playful Short Set
I really love olive green paired with black so I added my Jenni Kayne Crossover Sandals and my Clare V. Checkered bag. Both of these pieces have natural elements – the woven straw in the bag, the cotton and suede in the sandals – so I feel like they compliment this outfit nicely. It’s hard to tell from these photos but I am wearing some chunky gold jewelry. I think that helps glam up this look a little bit.
