J.Crew Summit Parka Review

Here’s another coat I picked up this winter – the J.Crew Summit Parka! I’d heard a lot about J.Crew’s Chateau Parka but when I saw this updated take I was intrigued. So without further adieu, here’s my J.Crew Summit Parka Review!

The Summit Parka is a new take on the Chateau Parka. It has some of the same details – like the stadium cloth wool, quilted liner, removable faux-fur hood, zip closure and button front pockets. But this updated take has a roomier fit and cool contrasting trim! I was actually really drawn to the contrasting trim (especially in the green shade). I also loved the laid back look of the coat on the models.

I’ve actually never tired on the Chateau Parka, so I can’t compare the fit, but the Summit Parka is definitely oversized. It also has a more ballon fit in the body instead of an A line shape. Because of that I feel like it fits a little tighter around the hips. I ordered both a size 4 (my usual size) and a size 2. I felt like the size 4 was just a little too much – the fabric is quite heavy and so all that extra fabric just felt too voluminous. So I went with the size 2 and I think it’s great. I would size down in this coat unless you want a really oversized fit. You also might want to size up if you have very wide hips. Like I mentioned above, it’s a little tighter around the hip area so when I sit down the coat kind of bunches up around my waist. That would be my only complaint about this coat – it’s not super flattering when you sit down.

I do love all the buttons and the hood. It has a high neck and the hood buttons all the way around the front under the chin. So it does a good job of keeping my neck and head warm! Since the coat is roomy I can wear it with chunky sweaters. I would say this coat keeps me warm in 30 degree temps – so it’s pretty warm!

Sadly, this coat is almost sold out! But the good news is, it’s on major sale. I got mine during Black Friday at an amazing price (around $180, originally $398) and now it’s even lower than that! If it’s sold out in your size, keep an eye out next year because I hope they bring it back!
