How to Style an All Black Outfit + Linkup
Black is one of my favorite “colors” to wear. It’s classic, chic, and slimming. But whenever you go for an all black outfit you run the risk of looking like the waitstaff. So how do I avoid that problem, you ask? Check out my tips below!
How to Wear an All Black Outfit
I like to start with an all black base – black top and black pants – and then accessorize from there! The idea is to add interest to your outfit through different textures, accessories, and accent colors.
1) Break up the all black outfit with a belt:
I added a gold logo belt to my all black base to help break it up. Otherwise it could look like I’m wearing a unitard. Mine is a black leather belt with the gold accent but you could add a colored belt as well.
2) Add a Jacket:
This is where you can really go crazy if you want! You can go for a fun statement jacket or keep it more muted. I chose a plaid, wool oversized blazer because it felt very fall-ish. A long blazer is also very flattering and creates a slimming line. If you really want to keep with the all black theme you could even do a black leather jacket.
3) Add a Fun Bag:
If you do choose to go with the black leather jacket, I would make sure to add some color into your look with your bag and/or accessories.
4) Add in Textures:
Texture is a great way to add interest to any outfit – especially if you want to wear all black or a monochromatic looks. You can add texture multiple ways. For example, you could go with black leather/faux leather pants to add some shine. Or a fuzzy black sweater or chunky knit with the black denim. Try a pair of shiny black, patent leather booties instead of regular black booties. Or a furry black bag!

About My Outfit
The main items from my look – denim, boots, and blazer – come from two of my favorite ethical fashion brands: Frank and Oak and Everlane! I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about Everlane before but Frank and Oak is relatively new to me. They are a Canadian based brand that has a curated collection of minimalist basics and chic statement pieces. They are also taking steps towards sustainability and have a selection of minimal, sustainable styles.
I have several of their denim pants and a few tops. This blazer is the latest addition to my closet and I’m OBSESSED. It’s a wool blend and not too heavy. It’s the perfect light outerwear to wear in California. Sadly, it is sold out but there are a few sizes left of this blazer. I actually ordered that one too!
