Are you tired of hearing about how much I love French fashion yet? I hope not! Because I have a lot of cute French inspired outfits comin’ atcha in the near future! French style is so chic and timeless. Remember this post on French sayings & jewelry? I love all things French fashion. So today I want to share with you how to dress like a French girl because I think it’s the perfect look to get you through the summer!

In my opinion, French girl style is laid back and simple. It’s delicate and feminine.

French girls look chic and pulled together without trying too hard. You’ll hear their style referred to as “je ne sais quoi”. There are many different ways to dress like a French girl but I’m going to focus on a look that’s easy and practical for summer – the dress, wedges, and basket bag combo.

How To Dress Like A French Girl:

First, you’ll need a cute summer dress.

Preferably midi length with a button front in a timeless print. If you are looking for examples, check out the Rouje dresses. The brand was started by the ultimate French girl – Jeanne Damas. So you can’t go wrong choosing anything from the site if you want that French vibe. And if the pieces are out of your price range then use those styles as an example and look for something similar.

Second, choose a wedge espadrille sandal.

Espadrilles are the perfect summer sandal and also French girl approved. You’ll find a ton of espadrille sandal options on Sézane – another French brand. Or you can go with a classic pair of Soludos. Either way, a midi dress plus a pair of espadrilles is always a winning combo.

Third, add a basket bag à la Jane Birkin.

This bag epitomizes summer. It’s understated and “minimal” in it’s own way. So I went for a version of that bag with a drawstring top because I felt it was more practical for keeping things inside. But I’m really tempted to get this one just for fun!

And finally, finish off your French girl look with natural hair and makeup.

French girls are never overdone and almost look like they just rolled out of bed (but in a good way).
