Customize Your Shampoo and Conditioner: Function of Beauty

Function of Beauty Customized Hair Care

Have you ever wished that you could get shampoo and conditioner that was customized exactly for YOUR specific hair needs? Well, look no further – Function of Beauty does just that!

All you have to do is take a short quiz where you specify your hair type (straight, wavy, curly, coily), hair structure (fine, medium, course), and scalp moisture (dry, normal, oily). From there you get to select up to 5 hair goals such as “fix split ends”, “oil control”, “thermal protection”, etc. And finally you get to name your formula (Function of —-Jessica), pick your colors and the fragrance! It’s really very simple – and also kind of fun!

Oh – and you don’t have to pick the large 16oz size shampoo and conditioner if you don’t want to. They have 8oz sizes available OR you can do a combination of sizes. So if you always end up using more conditioner you could order an 8oz shampoo and 16oz conditioner!

Function of Beauty Review

For my hair profile I chose – straight hair, medium hair structure and normal scalp moisture. My hair goals were thermal protection, nourish roots, and volumize. I also chose a peach color for the shampoo and cream for the conditioner and sandalwood violet for my fragrance.

If you are unsure of what to pick you can always email the Function of Beauty team and they can give you suggestions. I don’t really have any major hair concerns so I asked them for a combination that would get my hair really clean without weighing it down and they suggested thermal protection, nourish roots, and volumize so that’s what I went with!

After using the shampoo and conditioner I felt like my hair was thicker and fuller – I’ll contribute that to the “volume” selection. Like I said, I don’t really have hair problems so I only notice subtle differences between products. My favorite part of this shampoo was the scent! I LOVED the sandalwood violet frangrance! It is slightly masculine and sexy at the same time. The scent also lasted in my hair all day which I loved.

I also love that the shampoo and conditioner is formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, GMOs, and triclosan. I try to keep my hair and beauty products as natural as possible so I really appreciate this. When you select your hair goals the active ingredients are listed which include natural oils and extracts. Love it!

The only downside is that they don’t have a full ingredient list for the shampoos and conditioners on the website due to the fact that each formula they make is different depending on your hair needs. But they do include a pamphlet with your shampoo and conditioner set that lists all of the ingredients, which you can see above!

I also couldn’t find a description of the fragrances on the website but I got these notes back from a representative:

CUCUMBER MINT: A green melon and sweet mint type with top notes of cucumber peel, cyclamen, and green apple, middle notes of lily of the valley, peppermint, wintergreen and spearmint, with a tonka bean, vanilla and mentholic dry down.

HIBISCUS GRAPEFRUIT: A distinct sweet floral type with top notes of grapefruit, lemon, green melon and mandarin, middle notes of tuberose, neroli, jasmine and rose and base notes of soft white musk.

SANDALWOOD VIOLET: A woody classic chypre type with top notes of bergamot and cedarleaf, middle notes of violet, jasmine, and lily with an oaken wood, patchouli, cedarwood and sandalwood base note as the anchor.

WHITE TEA & JASMINE: A soft white floral tea type with top notes of peach, melon,  cassis, pineapple and petitgrain, middle notes of jasmine and rose, with a soft white musk and sandalwood base note.

PASSIONFRUIT & PAPAYA: A heavy fruity woody tropical type with top notes of  grapefruit, raspberry, melon and pineapple, middle notes of rose, peach, pear, and coconut, with a sweet vanilla bean, driftwood and white musk base note.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Eucalyptus, lavender, rosemary, spearmint, peppermint and tea tree oils – it has a light, minty fresh note.

Customized Shampoo and Conditioner

Overall, I think this is definitely worth a try if you have specific hair needs and have found that drugstore products aren’t working. The Function of Beauty reps are very helpful and want to make sure you have the right formula so they are willing to tweek things until they get it just right!

What do you think of customized hair products? Would you give it a try?
