Crop it like it’s hot! That’s my advice when it comes to fashion choices. I’m actually happy that cropped styles are in fashion now. One – because I like how cropped tops look with high waisted pants. And two – because I tend to be a little too tall for regular length pants so now I can just go with it and pretend they were supposed to be cropped…haha.

How to Style Cropped Pieces

Pair Cropped Tops or Sweaters with High Waisted Bottoms

But the main reason I like cropped styles is because of the proportions. Cropped shirts or sweaters hit higher on your waist accentuating your skinniest part. When shirts are longer they tend to hit around your hips which can make you look wider. So when you pair a cropped shirt with high waisted bottoms, you still cover up your belly but you accentuate the skinniest part of your waist. The overall look gives you more curves but makes you look thinner at the same time. Cropped sweaters also avoid having to tuck a shirt or sweater into your pants which creates unflattering bulk around your waist.

Pair Cropped Pants with Ankle Boots

I like cropped pants because they let you show off your fancy footwear! It’s fun to pair cropped pants with high ankle booties. That way you don’t have exposed ankles if it’s too cold outside but you can still see the details of your shoes. In this look I’m wearing cropped pants with flats. So there is a lot of skin exposure. But since I live in SoCal it’s not a big deal!

Now onto Flashback Fashion Fridays! I know I’ve been a little MIA with the link up lately…I’m trying to be more on top of it! Here’s a look from last February. This is my typical dressed up casual look. Just add a nice blouse, heels, and a cute bag and you’re good to go!

  1. What a cute outfit Jessica! That sweater is adorable and the color is a beauty. I like how you styled it with printed pants. It complements each other really well. I am 50/50 on the cropped trend. I like that regular cropped items tend to hit me correctly regarding pants but I am not so sure of tops. I am thicker at the waist and don’t really like how cropped tops tend to highlight that area! Perhaps I just haven’t found the right piece yet? Happy Friday and wishing you a marvelous weekend ahead!
