Christy Dawn Marissa Dress Review
Christy Dawn’s Fall Collection is out, and the pieces are STUNNING. The collection features new fall prints and dress styles, more skirt options, and cozy knits. I literally want to buy everything, which is kind of a problem…haha. I did manage to pick up one dress (so far), and dare I say it, maybe my favorite Christy Dawn dress of all time? So without further ado, here’s my Christy Dawn Marissa Dress Review.

The Marissa dress is a square-neck, ankle-length dress with trumpet sleeves. Details include a gathered bodice with elastic and smocking, functional ties at the neck and waist, and a mesh ruffle on the neck, sleeve and hem. The skirt is also fully lined and includes side seam pockets!
Size and Fit
My measurements: 34-29-39, 30D, 5’7″, 130lbs
I’m wearing the size small, my usual size in Christy Dawn, which fits perfectly, so I’d say it runs true to size. This dress has a lot of stretch because of the back smocking and adjustable waist, so I don’t think you have to be too worried about sizing. I’m actually closer to a size medium for my waist and hip measurements, but I have narrow shoulders and a small ribcage, so size small is usually a better fit for me. So if you are going off the size chart, I would pay more attention to the chest measurement.
Material and Style
One of the things that makes this dress unique is the fabric. Even though it’s 100% organic cotton, it has a slightly textured check design that complements the floral pattern nicely. It gives the dress more depth and interest. This is also the first dress I own with the mesh ruffles and trumpet-style sleeves. I really love the way the sleeve looks when I’m moving my arms – it’s very 18th century!
Things to Consider
While I think this dress is pretty much perfect, there are some things to consider. The shoulder straps are not elasticised in the front like many of the Christy Dawn style (like the Katrina Dress). This means it’s not a sleeve style that you can wear off the shoulder. The front of the strap is not elastic but the back of the strap is gathered elastic which means there is some give.
The straps are wide-set which might make it difficult to wear with all bra styles. I prefer to wear sticky cups with most of my Christy Dawn dresses so it’s not a problem for me.
This is a personal preference but I wish the dress was just a little bit longer. But I’m on the taller side so it might not be an issue for you.
How to style the Christy Dawn Marissa Dress
One of the reasons I wanted to get this dress is because I thought there would be a lot of styling options. The pattern includes shades of green, light blue, red/pink, and cream. So there are lots of colors you can pair with this dress. I LOVE how they styled the Marissa Dress on the Christy Dawn website with red socks and tan flats. Bringing out the red is a great way to make this dress “pop”. And if you don’t want to do red socks you could try a red bag or red cardigan. At some point I’m planning on pairing my light blue Sézane Claude bag with this dress to bring out the blue flowers. I would also love to wear the textured cream Nola Cardigan with this dress.
But for these photos I decided to wear my brown suede boots and khaki suede Will Jacket to bring out the green shades in the dress. The combination creates a lovely early fall outfit with earthy tones and textures. What do you think?
