Christy Dawn Fernanda Dress Review
I’m back with another Christy Dawn dress review! As part of their Stewardship program, I’m given the chance to try out a new style almost every month! I’m very grateful for this opportunity since Christy Dawn is a brand that is doing great things regarding sustainability in fashion (you can read more about that here). Anywhooo….on to the Christy Dawn Fernanda Dress Review!
Christy Dawn Fernanda Dress Review
My measurements: 34-29-39, 30D, 135lbs, 5’8″
I was drawn to the Christy Dawn Fernanda Dress because it was different than most Christy Dawn dress styles. I usually end up going for the styles with puff sleeves, smocking, and intricate details. But the Fernanda Dress is simpler and gives off a sleek, sophisticated vibe.

As you can see, it’s a little “business in the front, party in the back”. The open back makes this dress a little sexy while still being covered in the front. It’s 100% regenerative cotton. The bodice is fitted and made from knitted cotton, so it has a thicker feel. The skirt is a light cotton, similar to their other dresses, with no lining. It does have side seam pockets though!

Size and Fit
I took my usual size small in the Fernanda Dress and think it’s true to size. I would say if you are between sizes you can take your smaller size. I felt that I had a little extra room around my bust, and the fabric gapped a bit under my armpits, but I also have a more petite upper ribcage. There is A LOT of stretch in the back seam. That’s why I’m thinking that you can get away with your smaller size.
The one thing that bothers me a little bit about this dress is that the bodice hits at the bottom of my ribcage instead of my true waist. I feel like this highlights a wider part of my body instead of the smallest part of my torso. Personally, I would have preferred a slightly lower waistline. BUT that makes this dress perfect for pregnancy. The high waist will hit above your bump and the voluminous skirt and stretchy waist seam gives you a lot of room to grow. I would have loved to wear this while pregnant!

Styling the Christy Dawn Fernando Dress
The Fernanda Dress is a dress I imagine wearing on a European summer vacation. So I would keep the styling laid-back and simple. For this look I added my Sézane June basket bag because the fruit embroidery reminds me of Europe too. I also added my Freda Salvador studded sandals for a little edge. But honestly, I think a simple strappy sandal with a little block heel would work better. You don’t want your footwear to be too heavy since there’s a lot of coverage in the front and a longer, voluminous skirt. A strappy sandal will also help elongate your leg. Since I don’t like to be too matchy-matchy, I’d probably go with a brown sandal instead of black. I also imagine a silk headscarf with big glasses with this dress for a more vintage flair.

What Bra to Wear with Backless Dress
If you’ve ever turned down a top or dress because you couldn’t wear a bra with it, then I’ve got a solution for you! STICKY CUPS. These have been a game-changer for me and my wardrobe. I don’t have a large chest but I definitely still need a bra. I currently use Gatherall bra size C and it works really well for me. The Gatherall cups keep the girls in place and even give you lift and cleavage. This is the bra I wear with pretty much all of my summer dresses.
I own a few dresses with a deeper plunge neckline, and you can sort of see the Gatherall bra. In those cases, I have triangle adhesive cups from Cakes. There isn’t much support with these cups, but I usually wear tight tops or dresses when I use them, so it’s not a big deal. Cakes has many different options, including non-adhesive grippy cups if you aren’t a fan of adhesive.
If neither of these options work, you should try boob tape. I haven’t personally tried boob tape but I’ve heard it works really well. You’ll be able to lift and secure your boobs using this tape.
