Christy Dawn Emma Dress Review
Christy Dawn just launched some new spring arrivals and I got a chance to try out the popular Emma Dress! This is actually a dress I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I saw it in person at the Christy Dawn Flagship store in another colorway and thought it was gorgeous! So I was so excited that they brought it back in this beautiful Oat Straw Cream print. This is another one of those dresses (like the Adele Dress) that I feel has a great combination of sweet and sexy. The ivory lace ruffled trim throughout the dress is really cute. And the adjustable spaghetti straps and adjustable sweatheart neckline give the bodice a sexier touch, IMO. The dress is made from 100% regeneratively grown cotton and it’s really soft and comfortable! The Oat Straw Cream print has a pinking hue overall with purple and blue flowers. There is no lining to this dress and it is slightly sheer. I’m wearing a skirt slip underneath.
Size and Fit
I’m wearing the size small (which is my usual size in Christy Dawn dresses). It definitely fits and I wouldn’t size up or down BUT I did notice this dress has a tighter fit in the bodice. I would say out of all the Christy Dawn dresses that I have this one fits the tightest. Usually, when a dress is adjustable (like the Adele Dress) I have to make it tighter. With this dress I didn’t have to adjust it at all. Luckily, the back of the bodice has a smocked section, so this dress will stretch with your body. But if you have a larger bust or if you can go in-between sizes, I would suggest taking your larger size or sizing up. Sizing notes on the Christy Dawn website say the bodice runs narrow and I think that’s true!
How to Style the Christy Dawn Emma Dress
Since it’s still a little chilly outside I paired my Emma Dress with a Tradlands Shelter Cardigan. I’ve been wanting to try out this popular cardigan because it’s from an ethical fashion brand! It’s a Tradlands staple and comes in several colors throughout the year. This navy blue matches the light blue flowers on the dress really nicely.
I’m wearing a size small in the Tradlands cardigan and I would say it runs true to size. It does have a relaxed fit but I don’t find it too oversized. I definitely could have sized up for a more oversized look – similar to the Jenni Kayne cardigan. I wouldn’t size down because I find the cuffs on my arms to be a little tight if I try to roll them up. It also fits snugly against my hips if I button it up.
I added my Freda Salvador KEEN Mules to complete the look. These woven mules are a favorite of mine for spring. It’s nice to have closed toe shoe options to transition from colder to warmer spring days.
Finally, I added my Sézane woven basket bag. It’s a great catch-all bag for summer. I even think I could fit my cardigan in there when the weather starts warming up!
