Brentwood Home Juniper Kid’s Mattress Review: Kid’s Bedroom Reveal!

*This post is sponsored by Brentwood Home. All opinions are my own!

I’m so excited to share the first room to be “finished” in our new house – the kid’s bedroom! I wanted to get this room setup ASAP because I wanted a nice (and safe) place for the kids to play and sleep. The only problem was, we didn’t have a bed for my oldest son! Luckily, Brentwood Home sent us their Juniper Kid’s Mattress so that Harrison could upgrade to a big boy bed!

First, let’s take a moment to remember what this room looked like BEFORE we started renovations (photo below on the left). On the right you can see what it looks like now! What a difference! The (asbestos) linoleum floors were replaced with the engineered hardwood we have throughout the house and the light purple walls were given a fresh coat of paint. It’s just so much brighter and cleaner in this room now!

My eldest son passed down his toddler bed to our 2 year old so that meant he didn’t have a bed anymore! He was just sleeping on an air mattress on the floor but obviously he needed a big boy bed. That’s why I was so happy when Brentwood Home offered to send us the Juniper Kids Mattress!

Juniper Mattress Specs

Before I jump into a review I wanted to mention all the amazing specifications and details of the Juniper Kids Mattress! It’s a medium-firm mattress which is perfect for developing back and spine. The mattress has a low profile at 6″ tall which is a nice height for transition beds (and a perfect height for bunk beds which is what we will probably put the boys into when they get older). The mattress is composed of a 1 inch comfort cooling gel memory foam layer and a 5-inch therapeutic support base foam layer. Both are composed of up to 20% plant-based Bio Foam.

The Brentwood Home Juniper Kids Mattress also uses GOTS certified cotton, CertiPUR-US® certified foam and is GREENGUARD Gold certified. That means the mattress is non-toxic and doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, heavy metals, or phalates! It’s also latex-free and 100% hypoallergenic.

Our Experience with the Juniper Kids Mattress

So far we’ve had the mattress since February (so about 3 months) and it’s been working out great! It arrives all rolled up but then puffs up immediately once you take it out of the package. My son loves his new bed and is sleeping so much better now. He doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night as much anymore. My son sleeps HOT so I think the cooling gel memory foam layer helps to keep him from overheating. My 2 year old also takes naps on the mattress and he’s napping for up to 2 hours! We haven’t experienced any negatives with the mattress so far.

Lilypad Kids Natural Pillow

Brentwood Home also sent us a pair of the Lilypad Pillows for my son’s bed. The pillows are filled with 100% GOLS organic certified kapok fiber and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified natural latex ribbons with a 100% GOTS organic certified cotton cover. Kapok fibers are a great vegan alternative to down feathers and they do have a similar feel and weight. The pillows are medium-firm and are actually a decent size – I think even an adult could use them!

I really like these pillows as well. They have a good weight to them and aren’t super fluffy so I don’t worry about my son’s little head getting swallowed up in them.

Overall, we’re really happy with the mattress and pillows. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about my son breathing in harmful chemicals at night from his mattress and pillows! The firmness level of the mattress and pillows also seems great for young kids. And like I mentioned above, both of my kids are sleeping well on this mattress!

Other Kid’s Room Details

And while the bed is the main part of the kid’s room I also wanted to share some of the other items from the room. This room is still a work in progress. I’d love to add more decor on the walls and maybe eventually add wallpaper of a fun wall color. But for now I think it’s pretty cute!

Most of the items in this room are from the nursery/kids room that we had at our apartment in California. So I didn’t buy anything new for their room – we just tried to use what we had! I did need a new bed frame for my son though and I found a basic black bed frame at a local used furniture store for $35. The black and white rug and ABC art are old from IKEA and the toddler bed and dresser are from Babyletto. There’s also a lot of decor from Imani Collective.
