My husband recently built an aquaponics system on our patio and we’ve been able to grow some basil and mint among other things. So now I have to start thinking of ways to use that basil and mint and what better way to do that than to add it to a cocktail! I don’t know about you but I LOVE an easy, fresh cocktail recipe – especially in the summer.
I also happened to have some bourbon in the house so I sat down and googled bourbon cocktails and I came across the Bourbon Smash! Basically, it’s bourbon, simple syrup, lemon juice and mint mixed together. Then I found this recipe which also included peach and basil which I thought was perfect for an end of summer cocktail.
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1/2 oz simple syrup (make your own with this recipe – super easy!)
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- peach slices
- mint and basil leaves
All you have to do is muddle (or mix) the mint and basil with the simple syrup in a shaker until the leaves are crushed. Add ice, bourbon, lemon juice, peach slices and shake shake shake! Strain the mixture over ice into a small glass, add more peach slices, mint, and basil and you’re done! It’s super easy! I didn’t really strain my drink because I like the mint/basil pieces.
P.S. I also infused my simple syrup with mint and basil to give it more flavor!
It almost reminds me of a sangria because of the big pieces of peach. They taste extra yummy after soaking in the bourbon mixture!
What do you think? Would you try this cocktail?
