Bag Trends: My Favorite Mini and Micro Bags
*This post is in collaboration with Shopbop
The past couple of years have seen the rise of the tiny bags! Fashionistas everywhere are trading in their oversized tote bags that fit everything but the kitchen sink, for mini bags that barely fit an iphone. So where did they come from and what is the big (or small) deal?
Of course, bags in all shapes and sizes have made an appearance over the years and decades. But in Jacquemus’ Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection, the ‘Le Chiquito’ bag made it’s debut and created quite a buzz. Why does everyone love the mini bag? Maybe it’s because they are just so darn cute! Or maybe it’s because it forces us to lighten our load and only take the essentials. But ever since the ‘Le Chiquito’ debut, bags everywhere have continued to shrink (I’m lookin’ at you Le Petit Chiquito Bag)!
My Favorite Mini and Micro Bags
To me, mini bags are accessories – like jewelry. For example, earrings aren’t functional, they just look pretty! But at least most mini bags still hold essentials like keys, cards, and your phone. When I first saw the Jacquemus mini bags I was obsessed. I don’t know what it is but the design of the bag just speaks to me. And as much as I like the Jacquemus bag, the price was a little out of my budget. (Unfortunately, a small bag doesn’t equal a small price tag). So I went on the hunt for a mini bag that would work for me!
I get a lot of my bags from Shopbop because they have great sales! There’s a sale going on right now so if you see a mini bag that catches your eye – it might be a great time to try one out! See below for more details!
Everlane Micro Form Bag
You know I’m a fan of everything Everlane so when they came out with the micro version of their Form Bag I had to try it out. I love the minimal, simple design of the from bag. If you are looking for a no frills mini bag, this is a good option. It’s 4.3in H x 6.7in L x 3in D with a magnetic snap closure. Even though it’s small – it does hold a lot. My iPhone X fits easily inside and according to the website, it fits an iPhone Plus. I can also fit a card holder, keys, lipstick and my keys.
Furla Metropolis Mini Crossbody
The Furla Metropolis Mini Bag was one of my first designer bags – even before I knew mini bags were a thing! I was attracted to the simple design, color options, and gold hardware. I also like the feel of the leather and quality of this bag.
I love to use this bag as an evening statement bag. I think the gold chain crossbody strap gives it a dressier feel and the red shade looks great paired with a LBD. The dimensions are 4.72 H x 6.5 L x 3.15 D with a metal closure and inside open pocket. I can fit a card holder, iPhone X, small sunglasses, keys, and lipstick.
Manu Atelier Micro Ladybird Bag
I picked up the Manu Atelier Micro Ladybird bag as an alternative to the By Far bag that I mention below. The dimensions are 5.75 H X 7.75 L X 2.75 D with a metal snap closure and no inside pockets. I can fit more items inside this bag but sometimes I have a hard time with the closure if I stuff it too full. I can fit my iPhone X, card holder, small sunglasses, keys, lipgloss and an extra item like hand lotion.
By Far Mini Bag
The By Far Mini Bag has been one of my dream bags from the start but I was waiting to catch it on sale. I finally picked it up a couple months ago and I’m in love! The dimensions are 4.25 H X 6.5 L X 2.25 D making it one of the smaller Mini bags dimensions-wise. I love the simple, minimalist design and the beautiful croc embossed leather. The By Far Mini Bag is available in a lot of different colors and some patterns so there are a lot of options. This is a smaller mini bag so I can just barely squeeze my iPhone X. I can also fit a card holder, keys, and lipstick.
Charles & Keith Micro Bag
This micro bag was a spur-of-the-moment purchase because I saw it on a blogger and became obsessed. This bag is not functional at all. I think of it as a statement making piece of jewelry. But come on – it’s just so darn cute! It was definitely a lot more affordable than the other mini bags and it’s actually on sale now for $30! What I like about this bag is that the crossbody strap is removable and you can attach it with a smaller strap to a handbag!

Everyone is talking about mini bags! I do love smaller bags, and ever since I switched from my bulky wallet to a super slim leather one (I love my j.crew magic wallets and am now on my third) the mini bag has become a possibility. The By Far croc bag is so cute, of course I love them all though!
