The thing that draws me to French fashion is that it’s effortlessly chic. I’m basing this off of my two favorite French muses: Jeanne Damas (founder of Rouje) and Anne-Laure (founder of Musier Paris). You’ll often see them with un-done hair, natural makeup, and breezy skirts and dresses. I don’t like to spend too much time getting ready so this formula is right up my alley.

Elements of a French Date Night Look

Sexy Top

I feel like French girls are great at showing skin tastefully. They can even make a white button up shirt look sexy! I think the key is that it’s ok to show skin in one area if you are more conservative for the rest of the look. For example, if the top is very low cut – opt for long sleeves and a midi skirt length. For a date night look I love to go with a dressy tank or sexy knit.

I recently picked up this pearl button cardigan from Musier Paris and it turned out to be the perfect complement to this silk Réalisation Par skirt. Even though it’s a sweater, it’s actually pretty sexy and is perfect for a date night out. As you can see, when it’s buttoned it still shows some skin and is pretty low cut. It’s a little too low cut for me so I had to use the extra button that was included and add it to the top of the cardigan so that it buttoned up a little higher. If you don’t want to wear it buttoned up as a top you can also wear it open! I love to wear this cardigan unbuttoned as a light layer over my dresses.

Silky Midi skirt

I silky slip dress or skirt is a French girl staple. This Réalisation Par skirt is still a favorite of mine and totally worth the investment. I know you can get a lot of knockoff versions of this skirt but I love the flowy silk fabric. I loved it so much that I bought a silk dress from Réalisation Par recently and love it too.

Vintage Inspired Accessories

I always see my favorite French girls carrying around vintage accessories. Think anything you might find in your grandma’s closet – beaded bags, wicker baskets, and gold pendant necklaces.

I accessorized my look with 90’s inspired strappy, square toe sandals from Zara, mini bag from Clare V. and vintage inspired gold pendant necklace from Kinn Jewelry.

  1. I love this look, the leopard skirt that can do no wrong with the delicate cardigan is just perfect. And I can’t get over the square toed sandals. I guess next time I turn my nose up at a pair in goodwill I’ll have to give them a second look!
