A black dress adds instant class to an outfit. It doesn’t even really matter what type of black dress it is (mini dress, midi dress, cocktail dress) or what material it’s made out of (silk, cotton, stretch jersey), a black dress just makes you look more sophisticated.
As you know, I’ve been living in dresses due to my postpartum body (hello belly!) so when I saw this black number on sale at Reformation I added to my cart immediately. It also helped that I had store credit to Reformation from selling items on ThredUp so the final cost of the dress was around $30!
I loved the smocked detailing, the length, and the fabric (a comfortable, stretchy jersey). Even though the fabric is more casual, the dress still looks “fancy” because…well, it’s a black dress! It was also the perfect dress to stuff in my Milaner tote bag for an outfit change at the Huntington Library! (You can see my first look in this post!)

I accessorized my look with this gorgeous woven tote bag from MILANER with my Rouje silk scarf* tied around the handle for extra flair. The quality of this tote is top-notch and it’s the perfect size to carry all my essentials – and more! It is an investment piece but if you are looking for a tote that’s sturdy and will wear well with time, then this is the bag for you. The leather develops a gorgeous patina with time (and if you have it in the sun) and even little scratches and marks will give this bag more character. So even though it’s a luxury piece, you don’t have to worry about being gentle with it.
